Disqualified CSU -> CCC-> Back to DQ'ed CSU

So, my situation is probably one of the most convoluted in the history of ever, and I am wondering if there's anyone out there with the same experience.

I originally attended SJSU in 1997 as a freshman and got disqualified academically several years later. Tried to do the "Open University" thing for reinstatement and it just didn't work out. Too much money, too slow of a progress, and my GPA had dipped to 1.39.

I had completed some core GE courses and major courses, and transferred them to a CCC (De Anza) and now have finished 39 units to transfer back to CSU. Problem is, I am transferring back to SJSU.

I got my acceptance letter last week, but I am provisionally accepted, meaning they need to verify my transcripts for the basic 4 classes, GPA, etc.

The nervous wreck I am having right now is whether or not my previous disqualification is going to come back and bite me in the ass. In theory, it shouldn't: I was DQ'ed as an incoming freshman, and now coming in as a transfer student - two completely different process. The problem is in the wording in satisfying two of my provisions.

From the letter:

"You must have 60 transferable semester (90 quarter) units."

"You must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and must be in good standing at the last college or university attended."

I know I meet the 60 transferable semester units. De Anza took most of my GE courses completed. However, some of my core GE (including the 3/4 basic skills courses) were completed in my Disqualified days.

I am provisionally accepted, but I can't help but think it would be a waste of my time if they somehow come back and tell me something is wrong with my transcripts due to earlier work or they don't like what they see, etc. Only reason why I mention this is because they are asking me to sign up at the "intent to enroll" website and pay the $70 orientation fee.

I am wondering if I'm dead in the water with the provisions that need to be looked in to or if I'm just over thinking. Anyone have similar experience? Would be much appreciated.

Okay, I am adding an additional message because I think I have thoroughly confused myself. Whew…

The CCC I attended did an articulation assessment from the (DQ’ed) CSU. As mentioned earlier, some of those classes I passed and “got credit” when transferring to the CCC.

My additional question is if the credited CSU courses count towards the 60 (90 quarter) units for one of the provisions above? I think it’s a yes, but I am not sure now…

From everything I’ve read, this is all fine. You can lump all the classes from where ever they were earned for the total 60 units, even from a DQd CSU. Just be sure to send transcripts in from all the prior universities.

Annika -

Thank you for your reply. Yes, all transcripts are sent. Since I got DQ’ed from the institution I am applying for as a transfer, I didn’t need to send them anything. So, it seems that I am okay with the 60 semester units. However, what about GPA? Do they mean overall from the last institution only or overall from DQed CSU + CCC? If the latter is the case, I’m toast. :(

Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State Northridge are good engineering schools. Try them.

I am in the same situation, where you able to transfer just by reapplying?

what happend in your situation @crshbadit ? where you able to get in ?

hello guys!

I think I am in a worser track. I was at UC Davis from Fall 2011-May 2012. I withwithdrew due to bad grades (I was a chem major and o-chem destroyed my first quarter being there). I re-evaluated myself and now I want become a high school math teacher. I am taking 2 classes right now at a CC but idk if CSU will take my UC credit once I apply for CSU this Fall. Help?
