Hi everyone,
I'm or was a CSULB student but i got disqualified during the second semester due to my 1.842 GPA instead of 1.85 GPA the school asked for. The school suggested that i should attend its College of Continuing and Professional Education and try to improve my GPA, only then i can apply for reinstatement. The problem is that I can't afford the fees of the course there. I was able to enroll in most of my courses thanks to financial aid. I'm thinking of going back to Community College for one or two semester, taking classes to improve my GPA and learn from my mistakes then to transfer to UCI ( i always want to go there). OR should i work full time and reapply for CSULB?

P.S: I was a transfer student from Community College to CSULB before. Would all the courses i previously took at Community College still count toward the transfer to another CSU or UC? What are my chances of getting there? Please advice me. Much appreciate in advance.

From your post, it appears the best course of action is to plan on taking advantage of the College of Continuing and Professional Education, and then apply for reinstatement to CSULB.
As to the affordability of this option, you will have to own the decisions you made in earning the grades you did at CSULB, and seek employment coupled with financial aide/scholarships.
Not easy-but doable.

Wow…this is strange. I was almost in exactly the same situation as you. I too had a 1.85 gpa at CSULB, but in the fall. I brought it up to a 2.6 (2.1 cumulative) this past semester (and could have stayed) but decided to leave. I’m now enrolled at a CC and am going to transfer in a year or two to Cal Poly Pomona.

In regards to your question, it really depends on how happy you are at CSULB. If you think you would be happier somewhere else, I’d definitely recommend the CC route since it allows you the ability to obtain an upward trend in your gpa (school’s like that) and you can then apply to whatever school you want. Your credits should transfer and, if you sign up for the TAG program for UCI, you’ll have a guaranteed spot there. Best of luck :)
