I got disqualified academically by UCSD after three quarters because I missed out on a semester (I got a little carried away and it snowballed into a terrible situation) and had to withdraw two classes and fail a class. I was also on academic probation from failing one class the previous semester.

This was about a year ago and since then I have taken two semesters at my CC (this is my third semester). My GPA at my CC is 3.8 (all A's so far, one B that should have been an A), and my counselor tells me the schools I transfer to will only look at my last institution (Can't trust her though).

I'm also in our school's honor program.

I'm looking to get my associate's degree next semester and I am also applying for CSU this October for Fall 2013. I'm really scared I won't get accepted anywhere.. I'm looking at applying to CSULB, CSUF, both Cal polys, maybe some UCs even though I did the Cal state requirements.

Has anyone been through this situation or know about it? Its only been a little over a year, but I feel I have matured so much and I feel like I can actually work now instead of being lazy and stupid like I once was. I feel like my grades reflect it, too.. But I'm so scared that the institutions won't accept me because maybe I missed a GE or they look at my old grades and think I'm a bad student. If it matters, I was accepted to all of these schools out of high school, but I opted for UC. Also, my major is the popular compsci...

Do you know what your GPA is from your combined UC and CC GPA? That should give you a reference point where to apply to when looking at UC’s and CSU’s.

I do not… I always ask my counselor if the colleges look at my older grades, but she said they will only want to look at what I am doing recently, and as long as I show improvement its OK. But like I said, I don’t really trust her. I found out AP credit transfers to honors courses for my college, but she didn’t even know that as the counselor of honors system. -_-

At UC my GPA was probably a terrible 1.5 or around that and at CC my GPA is 3.8, not too sure on how to combine quarter and semester units

Op9no2 im literally in the same situation as you…withdrew from a UC after my freshman year with a 1.5 gpa. This is my third semester at a community college, I have around a 3.3 gpa (btw your gpa is super impressive) and I’m so lost about what my chances are of getting into schools…no one seems to be giving me straight answers. I’m aiming for Santa Clara, Pacific, and USC…I think you have a good shot at the schools you listed as your JC gpa is more then adequate. What’s your major?? Also why don’t you consider going back to SD, it’s a great school!

Hey thanks for the reply! Seems like not a lot of people are familiar with this situation besides us. My major is computer science, which is a pretty popular major so I’m kind of worried about that. I’m hoping that my GPA and honors requirement helps me get into at least one college… I feel totally hopeless because I messed up my opportunity.

I don’t really want to return to UCSD. In fact, I didn’t plan on going back after my first year because it was so hard on me. It was far away from home and I felt really out of place. The programs were really rigorous, but I feel much more mature and responsible. I still don’t want to return though. I had a few problems aside from academics and I just want to start fresh. I also feel like cal states are great schools and much cheaper. And finally, I don’t know if they’ll even take me back. My attempts there were half-assed and I got really lazy, not quite sure if they would want me despite my GPA.

But yeah, anyone with more insight into my situation would be great. I’m actually planning to start my applications soon, so I’m terribly stressed out. I’m also nervous I might be missing a small requirement for my IGETC and they might reject me for that. Ugh! This is high school all over again.

I will also be going through that same path as you guys because I did bad my freshman year at UC Irvine and I am about to withdraw because I cannot pay for my fall quarter classes. Since you are almost ready to apply to colleges again, I would find it very helpful if you could let me know how that goes so I know what to expect when it is my turn to apply. And most of all good luck and hope you get into many schools!
