Dissapointing SAT? Can't explain?

So i normally get around 2200's on practice tests and 800 in math. but then this scores came out today and i got 650 CR, 680 math, 630 writing. I dont get it, i thought i did really well in math. I'd be okay with this score if i knew it was coming but im absolutely dumbfounded. help?

That happens to everyone…you are in the comfort of home while taking the practice test but when you take the real test in the test center many people suffer from anxiety and feel like time is going too fast…text time subtract 150 from your practice test and thats your real score…1960 is not a bad score…it will get you in many top colleges

Same here. I usually get 2200 and above but for my real test, I got 2070 :confused: . Hope this won’t screw my prospects in applying to the top schools. Got all the extra curriculars, gpa 4.0 etc. just this damn sat score…

@Jason, you a senior?

the thing is, i get 800’s in math practice tests, and i was sure i nailed it on test day, but obv, the 680 doesnt reflect it. can someone cheer me up? i feel like a hopeless failure.

Just 3 or 4 questions in math can drop 100 pts. I know someone with 2 wrong got 730

I always do worse on the practice tests which is strange.

No im not a senior. Im a junior. Should i take sat 3 times

Only if you feel that you will do better. There was something wrong with me the first time I took it and I got 1940. My second taking I got 2160 and I got around 2160 on the January SAT again.

Do you have enough time to actually memorize word lists and do practice tests? I have never really had the time to study for the SAT… I could probably get >2300 if I did. Oh well.

did u take any sat courses from test prep companies?

K12Rises:

Here is what my college counsellor said:
SAT: demonstrates that you are a good test taker (or the fact that u poured loads of money into test prep)
GPA, grades transcript: Now that is a true representation of academic skill.
SAT will only take u so far. Of course, if u get a low score, then it will hurt you. A higher score won’t help u much.

Good luck if you decide to re-take.

@Jason good to know, my GPA is pretty good so I think i’ll be okay(Im a junior too so i’ll prob retake anyway). This was my first time anyway. Strange that practice test scores differ greatly from the actual result. I was kind of disillusioned since I didn’t know where i went wrong but, i’ll just continue to work on it. I think you should take it one last time @Jason, just to see if you can get that desired score but even then, all my college friends tell me that the essays are more important. So just make sure you have good essays.

Scores going down from practice tests is not uncommon. I got a 690 on the Japanese practice test and a 620 on the real thing.
