allie, I was thinking about applying to a few restaurants as a server or cashier. Any suggestions? I got apps for Palamino, CPK, Olive Garden, BJ's, Chili's, and the Corner Bakery. Palamino said their servers get minimum wage with tips. What can I expect?

I have no idea bc I've never worked in food service (that's a lie, I worked at Starbucks for too long, but no actual service places).

Um. Palamino, BJs and Chilis (maybe Olive Garden) will have high bills. Palamino is the most expensive but BJs and Chilis have lots of parties consistently so I suspect that their tips are decent.

Don't do Corner Bakery, you definitely won't make anywhere near as much money.

/edit- but since there are soooooo many students who want server jobs, you generally have to have some good experience to be hired as a server right away. Otherwise you'll definitely start as a host and work up from there. I've heard that competition for serving jobs is pretty rough in Westwood.

thanks for the quick response! Is the host the person who seats you? I never thought I had to compete for serving jobs...I think I interview pretty well though, so we'll see. Do you know if they hire under 21 servers? Since I can't legally serve/drink alcohol for another two months.

The Corner Bakery manager told me that they're hiring for catering drivers with 6-2 PM shifts. In theory that doesn't sound too bad since I have Tuesdays and Thursdays free, but I would probably end up feeling dead all week.

could someone answer whether de neve p350 is in the de neve housing area or not? thanks! sorry it just got lost in this crazy thread!

I suspect that it is, since it's the only area on campus called DeNeve.

And Bfired- most places in CA just want you to be 18 to serve alcohol. There might be some exceptions where it's older or younger, but 18 is the general rule(for servers. It's 21 for bartenders).

interesting...the majority of places around where i live doesn't allow under 21s to touch/serve alcohol in any way

very strange. i'm almost positive it's 18 at most of the places in westwood.

^ no way? in my eexpeirence every resutanrrt in LA with the exception of some thai dive bars wont serve me alcohol. OH WAIT UR Being sarcastic huh?

Hahaha, but namaste, they are talking about being able to serve others alcohol (as like a waitress or whatnot) not getting served alcohol.

;)

Dude. We're not talking about being served, we're talking about being the server. You can't be served alcohol until 21, like anywhere else in the stupid country. But as a server you can deliver alcohol to people 21+ at 18, you just have to be 21 to make the drinks as a bartender.

Catch up :P

haha fiddledd, JINX

Haha! I seriously always open my replies in new pages and refresh the original thread in attempts to not jinx, and it still always happens.

hahaha shucks i was hopin you was speaking of the latter, al.
