Hey guys, I just received my email regarding my status as a finalist in the Distinguished Scholars Competition. If anyone who previously participated in this competition is active on CC, I'd love to hear your take on the whole experience. Also, pertaining to the duPont scholarship, does anyone know what criteria is taken most in to consideration? Specifically, are stats and one's performance at the event weighted equally or is there preference given to one or the other? Other 2014 scholars on here: I'd love to hear from you all! Use this thread to chat :)

Congratulations on your invitation. Although it was several years ago (my son is now a senior), my recollection is that academic credentials as well as performance over the weekend were equally considered. He had one on one interviews and submitted a writing sample. Social event/mixers were also part of the weekend, where applicants had a chance to engage faculty in meaningful discussions. He was ultimately awarded the DuPont Scholarship and will graduate in May,debt free (such a blessing). I don’t know if the weekend competition has changed, but when he attended, every student invited received a scholarship equaling at least full tuition. We are out of state and his DuPont award covered all of his expenses plus an additional stipend. Good luck to you. My son has loved every minute of his time at UD and has had exceptional opportunities in the classroom and out.

That was very informative! Thank you @highhopes31. I’m excited to see what the weekend has in store.
