The first good original sci-fi I've seen in a long time.

Saw it today, thought it was pretty good. Great, actually, as far as sci-fi goes. I loved the marketing campaign lol.

Saw it yesterday, best movie i’ve watched in a long time. I hope people catch the metaphor behind the movie.

My only two problems:
- The tracking shots during a particularly action-filled part of the movie. The rest of the cinematography was very, very good, but those shots made it look like the characters portrayed were moving through the environment on a railroad track. This breaks suspension of disbelief about as effectively as a main character suddenly pointing at a random piece of debris and saying “Look everyone! A plot device! BUT DON’T TELL THE AUDIENCE!”.

2) All of the idiots in the theater who kept shouting “OWNED” whenever a piece of human equipment exploded. Yes, we get it, you recognize that they’re the bad guys and think that the guns in question are cool. This movie has some degree of sophistication. Shut up and let everyone appreciate it (or go next door to G.I. Joe, which one can reasonably say would benefit from such shouts).

It’d be pretty difficult not to recognize the allusions to the Apartheid. It was so blatant, almost to the point of overuse.

^Yeah, but a lot of people don’t know about apartheid enough to recognize the metaphor, even though it was evident throughout the whole movie.

A solid hit IMO…I needed something like this after the hosts of boredom and horribleness I found in some of these other releases.

GREAT movie. I looked up the movie on wikipedia and saw that the director was Peter Jackson. MAN! That guy hasn’t made a movie I haven’t enjoyed.

I LOVED the transition from being a cloverfield first hand like movie to a real action packed film. It was a very very complicated film that twisted and turned at the right moments. My brother said there was an after credits sequence? Anyone wanna tell me what happened?

According to moviestinger there is nothing during or after the credits.

I’ve been wanting to see this.

Thanks lockn, I had hoped not =).

I heard it was awesome! My sister and I are going to go see it tonight (if we can get tickets, it’s been sold out here for awhile)

Peyter Jackson did not direct; he was the producer.

Neil Blonkamp directed.

Isn’t District 9 also a Post-Grunge band?

Fantastic fantastic film, best sci-fi movie of the decade. Saw it on opening weekend, couldn’t ask for more. Puts Hollywood to a real shame, they managed all that with a $30 million budget and Hollywood whips up CGI-heavy mindless action flicks like Transformers 2 (which also happened to be filled with inappropriate and really BAD comic-relief moments).
