Major in History and then work at a gas station

Like the guy in Robocop?

Shackleford you’re telling him to be ignorant of some revolutionary ideas in history?

Don’t listen to this guy.

hadsed,

Right. Because Marxism has panned out very well in the last century.

That’s not the issue. The point is that you don’t close your mind to anything, because you don’t know where ideas can come from.

The sarcasm is a great mechanism to make yourself look less ridiculous, but you’re promoting ignorance. You can be ignorant, no one cares, but telling people don’t read this because you’re saying it’s bad…

This is so ironic. Maybe YOU should read Marx’s book.

Great comments here?

I ended up getting into Harvard, Stanford, Columbia, and MIT with some degree of financial aid.

I got full tuition at WUSTL(!!!) and Rice University and have a full ride to my state school.

Still confused about majors. Still attracted to MIT. Still wondering if I could fit in at a pure engineering school like that.

What should I do?

I would pick the school with many majors you might like, so if you ever change your mind, there will be other options. Why not try a mathematical biology or applied mathematics degree with emphasis on biology degree? It seems like you would like it. The schools you got into are amazing, and you do not give yourself enough credit. I would kill to get into any of those. Also, qualifying for USAMO at all means you are excellent at math, trust me. I am a 4.0 student, but I can only dream of achieving good enough test scores for those tier 1 schools.

Be proud of yourself, and pick a school where you feel very comfortable. Consider the weather and all options. If you are interested in MIT, I know they have excellent biology and biological engineering programs. The engineering-oriented atmosphere there is not something I would know about except that if I had to guess, every student at the school is a “killer” at academics (at all of those schools I suppose). If I were in your situation, I would choose Stanford or Harvard. Both of these schools have large number of excellent majors. The difference in atmosphere at each is so different, though.

At this point I guess you will just have to make a choice and never look back.
