How culturally and geographically diverse is the student body at GT? Also, what’s the overall campus atmosphere like?

I’m a current student, and I can say that from what I’ve seen the campus is much more diverse than the average public university. See here for a strictly by the numbers breakdown of enrollment by gender and ethnicity: http://www.irp.gatech.edu/
Most in staters are from the Atlanta metro area, and most out of staters come from California, Texas, Florida, and the NY metro area. As you would expect, most of the international student body is from India, China, and South Korea.
So to answer your question, yes, GT is very diverse. Throw in the added benefit of a cosmopolitan city like Atlanta, and I’d say there’s something here for every interest.
