I was going to write an essay centered on my Thanksgiving experiences where my Chinese and American background blends together (We eat turkey as a side to dumplings). It was going to show that I have grown up in two opposite cultures but that they blend together to form a unique one.

Anyways, is it okay to write this even though I have no activity related to my Chinese culture in my extracurriculars? Does this bring diversity to a college? Basically, is it a good topic to write about?

That sounds really interesting – I was just about to come in here and say “please do something different.” Diversity essays can get really boring, but this sounds different and entertaining and aims for exactly the kinds of things people want to see in these diversity essays.

of course it’s okay if it has nothing to do with your EC’s. it’s still a significant part of who you are, background information outside of activities and schoolwork.

Juillet, what do you mean by diversity essays can get really boring. i’m planning on writing one to demonstrate the diversity i bring to the table, so it would be nice if you could elaborate :)
