Diversity, fairly strong academics, and VB! Where???

Need a school that is pretty racially diverse, has fairly strong academics (mine 3.7, SAT 1900, National Achievement semi-finalist - so far) Liberal arts probably, but not 100%. Location not too important, but need a resident school as opposed to a suitcase school. And I play volleyballl -- again medium, no super star. Any ideas??

University of Florida is a top tier school, diverse, large and has nice scholarships for National Achievement finalists.

So, in the meantime, waiting on more folks to reply (hopefully!), what about: Carnegie Mellon
Wheaton
Carelton
CSU East Bay
Worcester Inst. of Technology

You should look into Occidental.

The vast majority of LAC's are DIII schools, which if you are correct in your assessment of your skills level, sounds like where you will find your widest assortment of options. Financial aid will have to come in the form of the usual merit or need-based aid, as DIII's don't offer athletic scholarships. DIII schools offer a wide variety of opportunities to play, from top-level programs which can compete with some DI schools and rely on recruited athletes, to rather casually run programs that wouldn't compete well against a good high school team--and everything in between.

DI's, DII, and NAIA can all offer scholarships. The top DI '06 volleyball class has already been picked, and the time for the lower levels to start picking up players has arrived. DIII coaches are often still looking for players in the spring, and since there are no precious scholarship spots to dole out, a good player who arrives on the scene at the last minute is usually quite welcome. However, getting a little help from the coach with admissions will only work if the coach knows you exist before admissions has made a decision.

You can find out which schools are DI, DII, DIII and NAIA and jump to their websites to check out rosters, fill out recruiting forms, etc., by using Rich Kern's site: http://www.richkern.com/vb/websites/index.asp

Also, many DI schools offer "club" or intramural volleyball. UC Davis, for example, offers two club teams in addition to the DI "scholarship" NCAA team. Pick a school where you'd be happy to be if you experienced a career-ending injury on your first day of practice. Good luck. :)
