Diversity in U of Chicago...

A lot of people have been talking about the admissions process, the learning style, and all that other good stuff.

I'm wondering about the diversity on campus. I couldn't find any statistics online. And yes, I know all about the mental diversity.

I'm under the impression that it's very diverse, and the admissions process may even try to make the campus more diverse it thought, background, culture, etc. In the dorms, I know that they mix underclassmen with upperclassmen, and people with completely different majors are put in the same houses. You might be biochem next door to an english and french lit; this is only to your advantage, because it creates ...an atmosphere that makes you think outside of your own personal cube.

Now I'm excited!

To be frank, Chicago did not look very diverse on a one day visit. For example, I expected more African Americans, since the U is in a predominately black area, and runs schools on campus. We mostly saw skinny nerdy white guys, interesting, if slightly nerdy white girls, and very few Asians. DD is from a very ethnic city that is more diverse.

I remember hearing that it was about 4% African American, 5% Hispanic, and 20-something percent Asian, but those figures might be out-of-date.

Some Stats from Princeton Review...
International: 8%
African American: 4%
Asian: 15%
Caucasian: 59%
Hispanic: 8%
I believe these figures are fairly accurate.

does anybody know how many indian subcontinent people they have percentagewise? it seems hard to find out.

UChicago is an eclectic mix of intellectual students, and the best intellectual students come from all different races and ethnicites. So, if by diversity you mean skin color, UChicago is diverse.
