Diversity/Likely Letter?

Well waitlistman if you’d like to know I was born in the states but I was raised in Haiti. 2100 SAT, 790 Math level 2, 750 Physics! I had to take the test the same year the earthquake struck us! My school is now at 40% a reffuge camp! My school was closed for 3 months last year! So personnally I think I deserve to be there not because Im partly Haitian or I went trough all this! Just because my stats are not bad, my essays were great, my reccs were good and because Im ranked second in my class! I just think I deserve it just like your D! :)

I feel so left out, I did not get one of these and I applied for the College of Arts and Sciences. If I did not receive one of these am I rejected? Here are my stats and can you tell me if my chances are decent?
Ethnicity: African American, Native American
GPA(Weighted Cumulative):3.5106
ACT:17 <----Test Anxiety
SAT: N/A
AP/Honor Courses: 5
Leadership: Football Captain, Wrestling Captain.
Extracurricular Activities: 4 Year Football, 2 Year Track and Field, 2 Year Wrestling, 1 Year Baseball, 2 year Marching Band, NHS.
Intended Major: Government
Essay: Pretty good, however not the best compared to others.
Recommendations: Good, not the best I would expect.
Strengths: My drive to succeed in the law profession.
Weaknesses: Poor freshmen year making a GPA of 3.1, ever since then my GPA has been well over a 3.5 maintaining a 3.8 and 3.7 only receiving a 3.5 junior year. I currently have a 4.0 on semester.
How do my chances look?

Got it :D

Visiting Cornell during Diversity Hosting will give you the opportunity to experience life as a Cornell student. We will provide limited transportation, housing, meals, and a rich array of opportunities to attend classes, meet with faculty, and converse with current Cornell students about their experiences.

This special invitation is extended to you because of your strong academic and personal record and because you will be admitted to Cornell University’s Class of 2015.

i got my email today and was really excited but felt the same way a lot of you did about it seeming to hint that it was only because of “diversity.” before i stumbled upon this i actually started a new thread i think especially people in this thread will appreciate about the “Role of being a Hispanic college applicant” (because im hispanic) and my mixed feelings on how the application process works or is percieved to work with minorities (i.e. the whole “He only got in because he’s hispanic” factor). I’d love to hear your opinions over there as well. CONGRATS to all btw!!!

Instantlylater:

I know exactlyyyy how you feel. I stopped telling people where I got in because all I get is the “affirmative action” snub… But I worked f***ing hard for those grades, ECs, letters of recs, and test scores! It upsets me that people act ignorant and actually believe that one merely was accepted based on race/ethnicity.

try looking at it a different way - the university is recruiting you, yes, because you are a QUALIFIED URM…you got in because you are qualified…the hosting weekends are to allow you time to meet other students and become more comfortable with the university …both my kids were legacies and despite their wonderful scores they both heard that legacies only got in because of being hooked…and there are many wonderful and intelligent athletes at Cornell who are told that all athletes only got in because of their sport…hope each of you enjoys your visit!

I got one! Thank god I checked my email this morning.

FYI, Asian applicants are not considered URM by Cornell.

Anyone from MIA going?

Congrats to all those who got a letter!
Did anyone who applied to AAP get a letter yet?

I’m still in shock so can someone please answer this question for me, have we actually been admitted or are we just very likely candidate? Is there a chance that we may be rejected when March 30th comes?

Yes, gleefulme, you may still be rejected on March 30th.

If you rob a bank.
:)

so i just want to confirm this: does this mean you are a part of the class of 2015??

yup, it means that you are part of class of 2015

Received one as well, Mech E. major at CoE :).

btw…a FB page was just made for the class of 2015 so you guys should join ; )

As soon as I get home from this half day of school… I’m joining hahah :)

Haha okay thanks Nil, I’m still so much in awe. It was so unexpected. When I saw the email I just thought it was your run of the mill invitation but I saw the words admitted and my heart just stopped. lol I’m so excited right now.
