Is anybody applying for the Diversity Open House Weekend? If so, what are you guys writing about for the essay?

I am!!! Just write truthfully, its only 200 words, not a writing sample.

I was beginning to think there wasn't anybody here applying! Also thanks for notifying that it's not an actual essay--saved me some trouble. Do you think this is competitive or is it pretty much like if you apply you get in? Oh, and where are you from?

How do you apply for the Diversity Open House Weekend?

I think the application might be by invitation only. I didn't sign up for anything. Amherst just sent me a letter inviting me to apply in the mail sometime in June.

I do believe one of my friends did it; I know she did the one at Willamette. She's now Amherst '09, so I guess it went pretty well. :)

i'm not sure how competitive the selection for DIVOH is, but people are rejected from it. and not bad students, either. one girl last year was rejected from DIVOH but eventually accepted by amherst.

i did the little essay at the last moment. just be yourself and show that you want to attend DIVOH; i'm sure it'll be fine.

Interesting enough, they sent out another mass mailing of applications with the deadline extended two weeks from August 8 to Agust 22...

I too applied, although I sent in my application about three/four weeks ago and have yet to hear anything. I called to verify they had received it and it turned out they hadn't received the back portion of the application so I had to send that in again. I go an email last week saying they now have my complete application and that I should hear back "soon".

Considering how bizarre my essay was though, I highly doubt I'll be admitted.

My son also applied about 4 weeks ago and has yet to hear. He did go to the one at Dartmouth and had a great time. He also heard from Williams and Wash U, and will be going to those. Did anyone that applied to Amherst DIVOH also go to Darthmouth Direct? Anyone else anticipating going to Williams or Wash U for the diversity weekends? If so, maybe you can contact each other beforehand so you knowsomeone on the trip.

I'm also going on the Williams one, but had no information about the Washington U one. I applied on the last day for the Destination Dartmouth one but was rejected; unsure if they just didn't have slots or if I didn't qualify. Anyway, I'm going to the Williams one on the 29th of October.

Then I guess you will meet my son there. He is also on the cc boards ocassionally, "sytry72", if you want to post a message for him.

I checked, you wont hear from them until the first week of September, and don't feel any doub if you're not accepted, I believe they're trying to distribute it so that they have a balance of prospective students both ethnically, financially, and gender wise.

there was a poster here who did not get accepted and then later got into harvard, so a rejection doesn't mean much.

First week of September? That's cutting it really close, especially for those who selected the first weekend (late September), like me.

Oh well. Thanks for letting us know though.

D got her acceptance letter today for the Oct 29th session. Anyone else travelling from Northern CA?
