We are Hispanic and Jewish . Our Junior daughter attends the local Jewish High School which makes the religious part of it pretty obvious. Many of the OOS state Public Universities offer a diversity scholarship for under represented students. The information on their websites do not specify any specifics other than that what I just described. Her stats are pretty good, but not exceptional in comparison to the many posters here at CC. Her UW GPA is 3.8 and her SAT score is 1240, Lots of APs as well ECs.
Looking at schools in 50 to 110 USA rankings that would be decent match or acceptable reaches. Just wondering if some of these schools are flexible in the way they approach merit scholarships . Would diversity apply to a specific ethnic group or evem specific unrepresented part of the country? Would schools like Miami of Ohio, U of Minnesota , or Delaware (just examples of some schools) be willing to offer any type of scholarships to attract such a student Would somebody from the South be wanted up in another part of the country in order to create diversity in the school
She is going to take the SAT again and see if she can improve her scores and improve her chances of admissions and regular merit scholarships. Just wondering how many of the schools approach these Diversity Scholarships. Lots of experts in these forums.
I can’t see a public OOS college offering a diversity scholarship based on geographical. OOs state students are a source of revenue for pybic university’s because of the increased tuition they can receive.
As far as ethnic diversity Mist public universities are not at a loss for attracting students for ethnic and racial diversity within their own state
I do think that your D may bring a unique experience to these campuses , especially if they use a holistic admissions approach. However, I don’t think she would get a scholarship for it. I recommend that you check the scholarship pages at the schools that your D is interested in and see if she meets their requirements for scholarship
I don’t know if this is the type of diversity scholarship you are referring to but see below for a description of a “diversity scholarship” from Ohio State. Any student, in-state or out-of-state, can apply for this scholarship. The scholarship is not necessarily awarded to students who are diverse (meaning who fall into an under represented race, ethnicity, religiion, geographic location, etc.) Rather the scholarship is awarded to students who show commitment to diversity.
It sounds to me more like you are asking whether universities will award aid to an applicant specifically because that applicant brings diversity to their school based upon the applicant’s race, ethnicity, religion, geographic location, etc. That is something that would likely need to be investigated for each school you are interested in. And it’s possible that if there is no stated scholarship specifically focused on attracting applications based upon those types of diversity measures that you will not have a concrete way of knowing for sure.

“The Morrill Scholars Program (MSP) is the largest scholarship program of its kind, rewarding over 300 scholarships to high school seniors each year. The scholarship is awarded to students who show commitment to both academics and diversity by excelling in the classroom and making a positive impact in their communities. Morrill Scholars are selected because they have shown their advocacy for equity and access by contributing to those around them.”
