<p>Dickinson College is a school I'm looking at (I'll be a senior this fall), but I wanted to know how diverse Dickinson is. I know various LACs in PA are not really diverse such as F&M. However, after reading some posts in this subforum, the consensus seems to be that Dickinson has an 'international focus'.</p>
<p>Lastly, my ACT scores are not too strong, will it hurt if I choose not to submit them? I'm worried if I do not submit them, I won't be considered for merit aid.</p>
<p>My D is going to be a sophomore next year. We are from the midwest. One of her two roomates for next year is from China, and she is sharing a storage rental space for the summer with another Chinese student (she has no classes except one political science class related to China, by the way, so it isn’t because she met them in a language class - - she didn’t). She also has a close friend from New Zealand from her freshman dorm. Our tours on campus were done by an Asian and an African American student. I think it is definitely more diverse than most other LACs in the area of the same size.</p>
<p>My D chose not to submit her ACT score, as her SATs were better. She got a Benjamin Rush scholarship worth $15,000 a year in merit aid.</p>
<p>My D graduated from Dickinson last year. She had roommates/friends from Japan, Bulgaria, India, Pakistan just to name a few countries. The campus seemed pretty diverse to me (for a LAC).</p>
<p>My hubby graduated from Dickinson and wants our son to consider it. I made the mistake (or not) of letting my son read some of the the student reviews on Dickinson and they seemed to indicate that it has become a very liberal minded school. He wants to attend a college that has a more moderate or slightly conservative leaning outlook. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?</p>
<p>I would agree, Dickinson is quite liberal. That doesn’t mean your son would not find like-minded classmates, however.</p>
<p>My D is a junior at Dickinson. She will be going abroad this year. She has made friends with kids from all over the world and the Posse kids as well. She has never complained about diversity and we are form the inner city. As for applying without your ACTs, she applied without hers ED and got in based on her class rank (#2) and EC achievements, PA Governor’s school, Student Council all four years & arts achievements. I think the interview sealed the deal. By the way, she got an awesome FA package from them as well (we are solidly middle-class, not rich, not poor and her package was 19K form the endowment guaranteed for all 4 years because she applied ED) and this year they really came through because her younger sister is starting college as well.</p>

My s will probably apply to Dickinson but we can not apply ED because if we didn’t get enough financial aid, he will not be able to afford to go.</p>
<p>We just attended an open house last week. They discussed ED and EA and RD. In regard to finaid with ED, they said that families should fill out the PROFILE (at the College Board site) with estimated figures to get an estimated finaid package right along with the ED offer. If your estimates are realistic then your finaid will be too. I think it would be impossible to accept ED without some assurance of finaid. I’d check directly with the Financial Aid office before deciding not to attempt ED. Fact is, they take 60% of the freshman class in ED. That makes RD a lot more competitive in my view.</p>
