I got accepted to DUS for 2014, I was wondering how difficult it is to get into the business school, when you are allowed to transfer to the business school, and if you have to apply or if you just have to keep up certain grades. Thank you

You are guaranteed admission to your choice of major in smeal as long as you meet the entrance to major requirements (same as direct smeal admits) and keep your GPA above a 3.2 (3.5 for finance). The entrance to major requirements are getting a C or higher in ACCTG 211, MKTG 301, MGMT 301, FIN 301, Math 110 or 140, SCM 200 or STAT 200, ENG 15, and ECON 102.

This must be completed by the end of your sophomore year, that is when you switch out of DUS into Smeal

What are the benefits of being accepted directly to Smeal as incoming freshman; instead of going DUS and then transferring? Priority in getting business classes scheduled? Others?

Nothing, really. You are assigned a smeal adviser. However, students who enter DUS are assigned advisers based on interests students list I believe. So, not a big deal. DUS is the ONLY college that students can switch into Business and Engineering from.

I was rejected from Smeal and accepted DUS as well. I thought I read somewhere that Smeal limits the amount of transfers per year.

Correct, the Smeal majors are enrollment controlled. Which is why its very difficult for a student not in DUS to switch into a Smeal major. Smeal accepts its students into a BA (undeclared) major for their first two years and leaves room for the inevitable group of DUS students who intended on being business students. However, as the advisers will tell you, if you are a DUS student and have the required GPA and have met the entrance to major requirements, you are 100% guaranteed a spot in your major of choice.

Thanks for the answer. Are u a student at penn state?

Yes, I am a freshman in DUS whos intending on going into Smeal
