Divisional Studies vs. Core Curriculum

which one do you guys think that i should take? i’m kind of pondering about whether i should take the ap english lit and calc ab test. if i take the core curriculum route, then i wouldn’t have to take the calc ab test and the english lit test.

or actually… can someone explain this to me?

What are you talking about?
Take as many AP classes as you can handle. If you get a 4 or 5, or whatever the school requires, then whoohoo.. you save money!
If you don't take the tests, then you'll take it in college.

but in the bu undergraduate programs book it says if you just get a 580 or above on your sat I's then your mathematics requirements are filled. (CAS).

But it says it won't satisfy the math/computer science divisional studies requirement. i think the ap tests, well in my case if i take the core curriculum route, means that you can skip a level. can someone from bu explain this to me and/or tell me if i'm reading this right?

You're right, if you go the Core Curriculum route, your AP tests will be useless for that requirement; however, they can be used as elective credit or towards a requirement for your major.

What's better in your opinion? do people generally like core curriculum or divisional studies better?

The vast amount of people like Divisional, but those who take Core and stick with it tend to love Core.

I am not a fan of the Core. Too narrow a focus.

When you attend summer orientation the head of CORE will try and sell it. I think that type of program, very focused on "old" world philosophical quests, is no longer relevant. Just an opinion. We are in a global world community, I'd recommend Div. not Core but kids that are into that love Core. So make sure you really understand what type of classess you'd have to have and see if that is what you want.

See LJ link I just posted. There is a very lengthy thread about the CORE.

can i do a mix of core & divisional studies?

what's your livejournal?

"can i do a mix of core & divisional studies?"
