So for the past year and half i filed that my mom's income/taxes with fafsa even though I am living my dad he is the "custodial parent" i did it mainly cause i was worried i wouldnt get the "BoG" fee waiver for the courses that was the biggest worry i had about the classes.

And it worked i got the fee waiver but to get any other type of grants/loans i would they needed additonal forums but I didn't want to do that for fear of getting in trouble. But now that i got accepted to Cal State Fullerton I would actually need to send in the tax forums and stuff to get the loans/grants which i would really need in order to be able to pay for it.

Im going to be transfering in the spring to CSUF and I inorder to add the school to my FAFSA i just have to add the school code to my fafsa form and itll be processed. My question is, can i just replace all the info i put on fafsa form and update it with my dads? What are my options?

I understand what i did was stupid and fraudulent. Im terrifed if I do bring the form to the school with my moms info that ill be denied and be screwed. It doesnt help that I live in LA with my dad and my moms lives in South Lake Tahoe lol making it even more obvious.

I just would like to know what are my options at the moment.

If your dad is your custodial parent, then you need to put HIS info on your FAFSA.

This really underscores the reason for honesty on these financial aid forms. I know you’ve already figured that out.

My suggestion is that you apply for your financial aid HONESTLY now using your custodial parent’s information. The school may question the change in your custodial parent situation and you really should be honest with them. It is very possible that they will review the past monies they have awarded you that you didn’t really deserve to receive. I’m not sure if they could possibly ask you for payment for things that you were awarded using fraudulent information. That is a possibility you may need to face.

BUT I would urge you to be honest on your applications.

I’m not sure it’s even possible to end the parent’s name, etc. after the initial filing. I know you’re not supposed to change fields with asset information unless the original filing had an error. Hopefully kelsmom will post the answer you need…

When are you planning to start at Cal State Fullerton? If it’s for this current school year, the above posts are accurate…you cannot change your parent on the forms. If it’s for 2011 fall, then when you do your NEXT FAFSA you would put the correct (and honest) information.

I think for this year, you may not be able to change anything at all…unless you are planning to straighten out the inaccurate filing you have done. And yes…this will raise red flags, and you very much could be asked to repay monies you received fraudulently. BUT personally I think coming “clean” is essential. You cannot continue this dishonesty forever.

And “BoG” stands for “Board of Governers” , Which basically waives the fee’s of classes which was the biggest problem for me for community college having 500 dollars up front was hard for me to do.

As for the books that was more managable because i was able to rent them and I didn’t need them right away.
