<p>my parents went through a complete divorce during my sophmore year. i live with my mom, who makes about 1/4 as much money as my dad makes. i was wondering how this will affect my need-based financial aid. my dad kind of messes up the income level, but he makes minimum child support payments. thank you for your help!</p>
<p>The federal methodology will look only to your mom, the institutional will require information, and impute support from him. Have you spoken to him about your plans for college? Has either he or your mom asked him what he will kick in ? What state do you live in? That is the start? Then do your best, there will be options.</p>

<p>thanks kayf. i live in south carolina, but i'm really hoping to go out of state (not a lot of good choices here). my dad wants me to go in state, so he's not too pleased. apparently, it's the law that he's required to help out anyways. it's a relief to hear that that i'm still going to be able to recieve something in aid :)</p>
