On my high school transcript (I just finished sophomore year), my algebra 1 and geometry classes show up, I guess to show colleges I took the necessary classes. However, I’m wondering if these grades (I got a B+ once out of the trimesters in geometry) will affect my high school GPA?
Some high schools do count those courses towards their GPA - I know my brothers does even though mine doesn’t. To the OP, it depends on your school. Ask guidance.
@jackrabbit14 thanks! Yeah, I was looking around CC and it seemed like some schools did.
Yeah it really sucks cause I was a stupid 8th grader back then and didn’t see how getting a mid A vs a high A would affect my GPA in high school lmao
As stated, this is really dependent upon the school; mine show up on my transcript, but the grades are not part of my GPA; ask your GC.
Also, when it comes to college application time, colleges will generally not consider middle school grades in their decision process, even if it is part of your GPA.
The grades of high school courses I took in middle school are added to my cumulative GPA. I got a lot of B’s in middle school, so that really brought my GPA down. Not doing my best in those classes is one of my biggest regrets.
As the previous posters said, it depends. My high school courses (Spanish 1, H. Geometry, etc.) don’t appear on my high school transcript nor are they factored into my GPA; it is assumed that the prerequisites for the courses that I am taking have been fulfilled. On a side note, though, my high school doesn’t put outside credits of any kind on their transcript.
If you don’t want the grade to count you could ask your guidance counselor if they would consider converting the credit to pass/fail.
My thought would be this is a fair thing to ask if it was not made clear to you that, for having the academic dedication to take an advanced class early, you were putting your HS GPA at risk. You should have been given the choice (less advanced math with no GPA risk).
Thanks everyone! I asked people who graduated, because I can’t ask my counselor for a while because my school ended. Apparently, they are not counted in my high school GPA, thank god! Only math appears on my transcript and they aren’t counted.
uhm, i think if you took an advanced math class like algebra or geometry at middle school, then colleges will ask you for your grade in that class… I know that the UC’s and the CSU’s ask for this, but I forgot if the common app and other schools asked for this.
