Do a lot of collegeconfidential forumers from "red states" seem to be rather liberal?

Like, I know a few of them from Kansas/Oklahoma seem totally out-of-tune with well, the stereotypical person from Kansas/Oklahoma. It seems like the majority of CCers I know from those states seem to be liberal, which is interesting.

Has anyone else noticed something similar? I'm thinking that it's probably since people who come here generally aren't conformists with their own environments, especially when those environments have very few high-achieving students. Here, it seems that geography often doesn't seem to impact a person's political/social views.

I'm from Texas and I'm more liberal, but you gotta understand that Texas is a big state and big cities like Dallas and Houston are liberal.

I think the stereotypical Texan comes from EAST TEXAS. cough

I'm from Missouri, and I am a liberal.

Our state used to be red, but then we elected a Democrat for Senator, and we are considered to be a purple state.

I'm from Texas and I'm liberal as well.

I come from Hastert's district. That's gotta count for something :(

The intellectual community leans heavily to the left, as do the young. It's no surprising that a forum for young intellectuals would have mostly liberals, no matter where they are located.

I'm from Mich. Technically we're a blue state but if you look at the counties, only 3 counties went democratic in the last election so the vast majority of people around the state are republican but the city that counts, Detroit, is something like 90% democratic. Oh, I am liberal.

arbiter is right.
i can't vouch--new yorker. haha.

from florida, which is quite liberal yet a red state, so I guess i'm allowed to be an ultra liberal.

I live in Tennessee, where liberals=Satan. Considering everything, I'm pretty liberal here, but moderate, right-leaning everywhere else. I'm a solid libertarian/centrist.

Shhhhhh, you never saw me.

I'm in Florida and quite liberal. Most of the people around me are die-hard conservatives.

I think the majority of people here are at least leaning to the left, no matter what state they're from. And since there are liberals in conservative states who have internet access and questions about a college education, you will find them here (as well as conservatives, albeit outnumbered).

It seems like most people on this board become very, very red when it comes to affirmative action boards though. Just a thought.

I'm from Florida and liberal, but most of Gainesville is liberal...we're always blue in a sea of red.

I'm from Jersey, which although is a blue state, parts of it are very red... like my town. However, the younger generation is much more liberal. Within my high school, it is pretty evenly divided. Me? I'm a libertarian. :)

Oh yes, oh yes. AA is evil.

Well CC also tends to have a lot of the people who do not benefit from AA.. who care a lot about it.

man, where's the reppen' conservatives? Kids these days just keep getting mroe and more blue :(.

I'm from California and I'm VERY Conservative.

Are you from northern or southern Cali? It seems that those from southern are more liberal and those from northern are more conservative. At least, that's been my personal experience.

YEah man where are you from. THe north or the south. Cuase in a liberal state, it usaully is really devided
