This is the justification for policies like Affirmative Action, but is it really true?
I see so many scholarships and programs that are completely out of my reach because I'm just another Asian. I've gotten a few scholarships that are based on merit and financial need alone, but as soon as race begins to play as a factor, I'm already out of the game.
I'm low income. I live in one of the poorer neighborhoods in my area. What about my race makes my circumstances so different from someone else? I deal with plenty of hardships...what makes mine any lesser because of my race?

Sorry if I can't see it, but I just feel incredibly disadvantaged because of something I can't control.

Another Asian, poor me, whine, whine, whine post. I’ve lost count over how many like-kind posts that I responded to this weekend. Check out my stats if you’re a non believer. Please retitle this post to something accurate like “Poor me, whine, whine, whine”. If you need the money and you have the credentials the top schools have need based aid. Also Most schools have merit/presidential scholarships open to everyone. That is if you’re strong enough to compete for it. The sad fact is that you are at a disadvantage, but not because you are Asian but because you are poor. Right or wrong the rich have the advantage.

Because quite frankly there are more asians than any race other in the world, and they are applying to top schools in record numbers, every year new records. Black and Hispanic counts remain constant or see a drop. On top of that Asians are also already over-represented in top colleges as they contain 1-2% of overall u.s. population but make up about 10-20% of classes at ivies. Sorry it’s the truth i wish it wasn’t, white people are negatively affected by it as well. Race shouldn’t be a factor because we are all humans, and equal, but we’ve only been trying this equality thing for 50 years so give us a break.

Don’t whine and base your hardships upon being Asian or bieng black or being hispanic or being whatever… In this day and age you must be responsible for where you end up in life. You must be prepared to work harder than you’ve ever worked to get out of situations which may not be your fault but you still have to in order to survive. For every man who has it good there is someone who has it better. For every man who has it worse there is someone who has it even more worse. Just keep a strong determined faith in where you want to go in life because many people have other disadvantages not because of their race but also becasue of family problems, health problems, financial problems and more and they still succeed in life; not by complaining but by never giving up.

I dont think race matters as much as income level. (I read an admissions book) Tho race does matter a bit
