do all classes have both lecture and discussion?

<p>hi everyone, i have a quick question. do ALL classes have both lecture and discussion parts? i am asking because one class on my schedule does not seem to have a discussion portion...

<p>There was a thread about this a while ago, so you can check it out too. The answer to your question is: no. Some classes have only lectures and labs with NO discussion sections. Some only have lectures, while others have lectures and discussion sections.</p>

<p>How are we supposed to know which classes have only lecture, only discussion, or both? I’m going into ILR this fall and ILRLR 1100 (Labor History) was automatically added to my schedule, but only the lecture portion. Am I supposed to manually add the discussion portion?</p>

<p>@ CUILR13: If a course has a discussion section, it’ll most likely be listed under “sub-course” on the course roster. </p>

<p>ILRLR 1100 is going to be taught by three different professors this fall (only one of them does not have discussion sections listed on the course roster). I don’t know which lecture you’re in, so I can’t tell you if your course has discussion sections. <p>Occasionally, the roster will state that a course has lectures on MWF but one of those lectures will actually be a discussion section where the class is divided into smaller groups for the purpose of discussing course material (in different rooms or in the same room). If this is the case in any of your classes, your professor will explain this in the first lecture.</p>

<p>Also, when someone adds a course on Student Center, they’re prompted to register for discussion sections and lab sections if either/both of these are course requirement(s). So if any of these are required, I don’t think the system would let someone register for the course without choosing sections.</p>

<p>i’m glad they’ve introduced an ILRLR course into the ILR curriculum…i’m guessing this eliminates the smaller colloquiums?</p>
