I found the perfect laptop for school next year, but even with the extended battery it only lasts 3 hours. I was just wondering if it is a standard thing now to provide students with a power source in class.

Not at my school.

Most of the ones I was in did, but it was a pretty techy school (laptops were required, tablets for engineers) and there weren’t enough for everyone in the majority of the classrooms. 3 hours should be plenty for you though. Are you actually going to need to use your laptop in class or are you just planning on using it to take notes? It’s a lot easier to focus if you don’t have it out in class.

I wouldn’t count on it. I haven’t seen an outlet in any classrooms, lecture halls have them in the very very back if at all. It would depend on the school I’m sure, but if there are any older buildings at all, it’s not likely.

I definitely wouldn’t want to have to rely on finding an outlet. Charge your laptop before class, bring an extra battery, or just take paper notes.

I haven’t seen any outlets in the lecture halls and the ones that are in the classrooms are way far away from the tables/desks.

In our newer lecture halls (<10 years) there’s an outlet at every seat. In the older ones, it tends to be 2 for a section of a row (so 6 a row with 3 sections).

I’ve never had trouble getting a power source if I needed it in a classroom (you can just sit against the wall).

It really all depends on the school.
