I have also posted this question on the SAT board but I'm hoping one of you parents might know the answer to my question.
My D is in tears because she just took a practice SAT II BIO test tonight and only scored 600. She is well prepared so I think this is a fluke, but the test is tomorrow so I'm trying to calm her down by gathering "worst case scenario" information.

If D does do badly on the SAT II does she have to report all her SAT II scores or can she report only the 2 best scores? If all scores are sent to colleges do they only look at the 2 best scores or can a low score on 1 SAT II carry a lot of weight.

I've been lurking here for a while and I am amazed and awed by the breadth of knowledge the parents on this board have.

All scores are reported whenever an SAT report is issued. Most colleges now require only two SAT Subject tests, but some still require 3 (not sure why). If they only require two, they will look at the two highest. A 600+ is a pretty good score, btw.

btw: If your D goes tomorrow and just "knows" that he score is horrible, she can cancel, but it must be in writing (by next Wed I think) and all scores taken that day are cancelled as well.

Thanks for the reply bluebayou.
I knew all SAT I scores are reported but I thought I'd read that you could cancel individual SAT II's. I was hoping to be able to tell that to D so that I could calm her down.
I know a 600 is a pretty good score, but D has been preparing hard for the test and expects much more of herself.

Thankyou for both your help.
My D has taken a deep breath and calmed down. She puts so much pressure on herself to do well, but I think sometimes her expectations might be unrealistic.

Which practice test did your daughter take? If it is not one of the College Board's own tests, but from another company test book (i.e. Kaplan), it may not be a good indicator of how she will do on the real test because only the College Board uses its own questions - the other books just guess at sample questions. You might also tell her that things can be very difficult in the actual practice test and not to worry too much about this - just do her best. As Nngmm points out, most schools who require the SAT IIs will take the highest scores. Many schools won't even look at the SAT IIs.

individual SAT II score reporting/cancellation was eliminated 3-4 years ago. Now, all scores on record are reported. (The ACT allows individual score reporting.)

I have told my D what all of you have said. Carolyn,I think D used the Cliff Notes Bio to take the practice tests. I also mentioned to D that the real test might be different/easier than the practice tests.

At least she is calmer and more optimistic than she was last night and that was my goal for her.
All these tests ( AP's,SAT's and SAT II's) seem like matters of life and death to my D and her friends and I'm just trying to keep her on an even keel.
Thanks again for all your replies. Tests are this morning and then a final AP exam Monday. After that the pressure is off till next month with finals and round 2 of SAT I. LOL
