I was reading past threads and it honestly has gotten me paranoid.

First, even though you complete all the TAG requirements, is there a chance that your TAG will be rejected?

Also, if your TAG is accepted is it still not a guarantee that you will be admitted even if you completed all the agreements in the TAG. I know it means transfer guarantee but after reading past stories, I found that it isn't always the case and I would like to know why.

EDIT: sorry meant to put this on UC transfer thread. I wasn't sure how to move it though.

You’ve posted in the right spot, no worries. If you’ve completed all TAG requirements for your campus of choice then you WILL BE ADMITTED. People who submit TAGs and do not get accepted obviously did not fulfill the requirements even if they say they have. It’s a guarantee, a contract, so if you meet your end of the bargain then you’re guaranteed admission. If this wasn’t the case, then why offer a TAG? :)

ok thanks. Ahh you know sometimes this website can make you feel better or paranoid. Also, I know that they don’t have a limit for units if you take it all in cc. however, i just submitted my tag and i noticed i will have over 100 units by the end of spring 2013 (took classes in highschool, and a been in a cc for 4 years.) is it possible that they will not approve my tag decision because of that? the reason i ask because I see people celebrating that they got their tag approved. It’s not bad to celebrate. but i thought we should assume it will be approved if you meet the tag requirements. Sorry for all the questions…submitting my TAG today has gotten me on edge a bit :)

I totally understand! I’ve been on the edge this whole month, but I actually felt better after I submitted my TAG. I even called the school I’m TAGing with and went through every requirement with an admissions counselor before submitting. As soon as I got off the phone, I hit submit. If you find anything wrong with your TAG you can always withdraw it and then submit it again during the filing period though. :)

As for your question, don’t worry if all of your units come from a CC. I’ll have 98 by Spring 2013, so you’re not alone. You can’t reach senior level standing with just CC units; only CC units + regionally accredited UC-transferable units from a four-year.

same school but for chemistry! I’m a bit nervous because I have a 3.15 and so I have to raise it to a 3.2 by the end of Fall. I can definitely do that. However, I’m worried that they won’t think I can and just reject the TAG without looking at my follow up grades. I also read that they will send out decisions around march which would make me even more nervous!

That’s some of the things I can asking them when I call. Were they helpful when you called or did it feel like they wanted to get off the phone ASAP? It seems that inquiring over the phone might not get much helpful answers.

Don’t worry, they HAVE to take your Fall grades into consideration. And they will. So get your GPA up to a 3.2 and I’ll see you at UCSB! And yes, they’ll start releasing decisions in late March through May 1st. They won’t do anything with your TAG until they receive your Fall grades with your January update to your UC app.

UCSB is without a doubt the most helpful when it comes to helping out when students have questions. I’m always corresponding with their admissions counselors and they get back to my emails within a day. They’re the best!

When you submit TAG does it include the Fall semester classes/grades you currently take when you apply for TAG??

Also, what are some of the most important requirements people tend do forget or mess up on when applying for TAG? I don’t wanna end up applying and then getting rejected lol.

Yes. You must list your In Progress (Fall 2012) classes and also any Planned classes for Spring 2013. You obviously don’t have your Fall grades yet, so just list those classes as “IP.”

Applicants can be denied for a number of reasons. The most common one I see is not having the two English courses and at least one math course done by the deadline.

Please remember the guarantee is not unconditional. You MUST meet all requirements specified in TAG (essentially a contract); otherwise the UCs may revoke the guarantee.

MsSun, I thing your answer is going to confuse the OP who wrote
My understanding, and I hope you’ll post whether you agree or not, is that if you complete all the agreements then it is a ironclad no-weaseling-out 100% guarantee.

@mikemac, yes, I agree. As long as the conditions of the contract are fulfilled, the admission is guaranteed.

There are, of course, some issues with what students count as the conditions and what the UCs count as conditions. I just got the numbers for admission cancellations for each UC campus (I have all of the frosh numbers; still waiting for Berkeley and UCLA on the transfer numbers) for Fall 2012. In almost all cases, more than 50% of the cancellations are due to late/missing transcripts. A lot of students don’t take document requirements seriously and then they get upset when their “guarantees” are revoked. So spread the word … read all fine prints and be diligent!
