A minimum of 60 semester units or 90 quarter units are required for transfer but if I have more will the extra units all transfer over? If I have over 100 units by the time I transfer would I start with over 100 or will it get capped at 90.
I’m not sure if this depends on the school but if so I am primarily concerned with berkeley and its unit ceiling.
If you go to a CCC, it’s pretty cut and dried, up to 70 semester units transfer over, for courses taken that are UC-transferable. Anything over that 70 that is UC-transferable comes in as subject credit only, if applicable.
The 70 semester unit rule is applied to all lower division courses, even if they are from a 4-year university. So if you have 100 semester units from anywhere, as long as they are all lower division (meaning freshman/sophomore level) you are fine. 70 units will transfer but you will get credit for having taking all the subject material.
Upper division is where you run into issues, which are added on top of the LD, or if you have UC units. All UC units are counted as additional.
Example 1:
100 units all lower division from a mix of colleges (except UC)
Total transferable: 70
Example 2:
77 lower division units (rounded to 70)
10 upper division units
Total transferable: 80
Example 3
75 lower division (rounded to 70)
5 upper division from a CSU
25 UC units (including all LD or UD)
Total transferable: 100
