Do American college students go clubbing?

Well, I've had my heart set on going to the U.S for college for a while now. I've been there before and love it. I also find the whole university system much better than the British one.

However, apparently you can't get into clubs there unless you're 21. Now, I've never drank alcohol in my life and have no intention of doing so but how does this affect the night life? I would have no clue as to the first step of getting a fake id. Going out and dancing to insanely loud music is one of the perks of college life that I was looking forward to, linked with the freedom I'd be getting. I don't want to have to wait another three years whilst people tell me I'm too young to do something.

How does this affect night life for a college student?

I never thought that about college… I’ve never been to a US disco … I’m not sure if we have one in the state. We just have bars and saloons. I don’t think faking an ID is a wise descision… I went to disco’s (Germans call a club a disco) in Germany when I was 19… but nothing special happened there… and it’s low on my list of memorable things.

Some states allow you into clubs when you’re 18. Also there are some clubs that have 18+ nights. Most people under 21 who can’t go to clubs/bars go to house parties, which have alcohol and music, so it’s almost like a club.

Oh god. You just reminded me that I have to wait another 3 years to be legal AGAIN if i go there :/

And I hope they club! House/frat parties would get boring after a while

But clubbing sucks

Yes some do, I would say a majority of places its 18 to enter, not 21.

There are 18+ clubs.

I do agree with Tom though. I don’t wanna pay an obscene cover charge and pay obscene prices for beer just to listen to overly loud crappy top 40 music and compete with juiced up Jersey Shore-lookalikes for women.

Trust me, If you have any depth, all that party stuff is gonna lose its appeal real fast. So if you want it, do it early.

I could get into clubs around here when I was 18 so it wasn’t an issue, and I did go periodically. After an hour or two I am tired of being crammed up against sweaty drunken strangers and usually other people would prefer not to leave that early, so I don’t go anymore since walking home alone is not exactly safe.

Reading DC’s post, I am thinking clubs must be inherently more fun for girls… I don’t think I’ve ever been charged a cover and if I wanted a drink I would just have to stand next to the bar to get someone to offer to buy me one. It ALMOST makes up for the fact that the method of asking a girl to dance that most clubbing men employ is sneaking up behind her and grinding their erection into her ass by surprise. Almost.

yet y’all still act like you have it harder lol

Well, we are expected to wear shoes that are akin to chinese foot binding and risk breaking ankles with every step, and be concerned that with one wrong move we may fall out of our clothes. Clubbing is hard work! :P

if you say clubbing sucks, then your one of those losers who just stands there and does nothing.

I just saw this movie yesterday in theaters, and it sums up clubs pretty quickly. The setting is in America also. It won a lot of awards too, so its not some BS movie.

- YouTube;

“it sums up clubs pretty quickly”

seem like seizure-inducing hell holes

and ya I probably would just stand there cos I really don’t like dancing, not even when I’m drunk

what kind of music do they play now?

in 2002. in germany, its all techno… and that song “its getting hot in here, so take off all ur clothes”

I’ve heard that the 18+ clubs are absolutely horrendous compared to the 21+ ones.

Generally speaking, if you’re under 21, you just get to know a few people and attend some crazy parties instead. They may be a fraternity, a friend’s apartment, etc. The large ones are virtually identical to clubs, except without the price.

Yea they do. And clubs don’t usually play Top 40, its mostly dance and electro. . .well only the good ones. It depends were your going to college in NYC there’s tons of teen clubs, 18+ and 21+ clubs.

Ok, let me put it this way.

Is it hard to meet girls outside of college if you can’t go clubbing? :stuck_out_tongue:

Would life become difficult if you didn’t have a lot of frat friends or something?

I think clubbing isn’t a great way to meet girls, personally. It’s too loud for them to hear you, it’s crowded as hell, they are going to be busy dancing, and even if they are dancing with you it is going to be VERY challenging to get their attention enough for them to speak to you again later. That’s not to say that isn’t a way to meet girls, but there are other ways and this is not even the best way anyway.

“Do American college students go clubbing?”

Do birds fly? XD I like to go clubbing, many of my friends do and my friends at other colleges do as well.

In Poland some clubs play only techno but most play top 40 music from the past few years. Papa Americano is really popular and stuff like that. There’s never any rap (except once they played Empire State of Mind in a club I go to) and I imagine that’s different than it is in America. I wouldn’t know though, I’ve only been clubbing in Poland because I’m only 18 (the drinking age here).

I think clubbing overall is pretty lame. Sure, as a guy you get to dance with random pretty girls, but you still have to pay to get in then pour money into alcohol. As a girl, it may be cheaper, but then you have random guys grinding up on you all night. House parties are 20x better.
