Just wondering. My high school goes by this scale:

93-100 - A
85-92 - B
77-84 - C
70-76 - D
69 and below - F

I hate it. Would colleges adjust my transcript when considering my grades, or...? I have a lot of 90-91 grades, which are Bs at my school, but would be As elsewhere.

Your school says what the grading scale is on your transcript so colleges will be aware of it. They won't adjust your grades accordingly however or anything like that (I read your question as "will they change their perception of my B" or some such) as a great fraction of high schools use the same system anyway.

I think some schools do adjust your grades. I know that UGA, for example, weights AP classes if your high school doesn't, etc., so I don't think it's totally out of the question that some schools adjust grades like the OP suggested.

Well the reason I said it is because most times it's not like the college is going to get the percentage you got on your transcript, ie they just get a letter grade. Since they have no way of hence knowing if the student got an 85 or a 92 they're just going to leave it as is.

Stargirl is correct- If it shows a B on the transcript and not the percentage (which is most likely the case), colleges will not readjust the grades. But, that is what ranking is for.

yeah, it's too bad that they don't see percentages from my school--it would help me a lot, i know. 79 looks better than just plain c :(

but anyway, yeah, i don't see why they would do anything with your grades--if they have percentages they're going to look at them and not letters, anyway. right? that would make sense.

Grades are really subjective. I attended two high schools, one with the ten point scale and one with the scale outlined above. They are both the same IMO because schools that use the system above inflate their grades. I know even of some schools where an A is an 86 and it's justified because the tests are relatively harder. A more accurate statistic to look at is the distribution of grades in your class.

If it makes you feel any better, when I was in high school our grading scale looked like this:

95-100 A
85-94 B
75-84 C
70-74 D
69 and below F

This scale is still used in my school district to this day. The good news is that when you get to college the 10 point grading scale will seem like heaven!! I couldn't believe a 90 was still an A!

my int'l school that I graduated from had:

99-100 A+
96-98 A
94-96 A-
91-93 B+
89-90 B
86-88 B-
83-85 C+
and below...

That should make you feel lucky!
