Do AP(or IB) scores get converted to grades out of 4.0 GPA when you're in college?

So I was wondering if the scores I get on my AP/IB exams get converted to a mark out of 4.0.
So for example, would a 5 in an AP exam get converted to a 4.0 GPA, a 4 to a 3.8 etc etc.

I'm going to Rice Univeresity by the way, if that helps.

Thanks to whomever messages me back

this is so funny

You’ll get a grade of CR meaning “Credit Received.” That is, you don’t receive a grade, and it isn’t factored into your GPA.

It actually depends on the college and the score. Unfortunately, Rice University offers only the credits ([Rice University | Prospective Students](Rice)).

Some colleges merely offer you a credit, but I know some colleges also offered a grade at one point, in addition, and this varies college by college. It looks like more may be tending towards the credit only; the university I attended gave me an A for 1st quarter Calculus when I brought my 4 over, but they now no longer do so, offering only the credit and a grade of “S” using the pass/fail system.
