I am a current sophomore, next year junior, taking both of these plus AP calc, APUSH, and AP english lang. I was wondering if APES and Psych look that bad because they are lite AP’s.
No, not at all. Check colleges you are applying to. Harvard, for example, offers half credit for a 5 in Psychology.
In short, no they do not look bad. Obviously taking ap physics c will look more impressive than ap psych, but nonetheless they’re both college level classes. You’re taking 5 ap’s and 3 of them are core classes, trust me you’re fine. I’m taking 3 ap lites on my schedule out a 7 ap’s, so as long as you have a nice balance you’re set.
APES is no walk in the park. APES was one of the most challenging courses I’ve taken. Most kids at my school make C’s in APES.
I took APES and I got into a few selective colleges
However, I dont recommend taking APES unless you are interested in it. It is not going to give you credit, and who cares about how many AP you have taken.
I want to go into corporate law maybe with a focus on environmental when I grow up and I am very excited to take that class
Then take it, colleges dont care that much about AP anyway. We are both 2017!
Good luck for your junior year too and thanks for the advice!
I am actually starting sophomore year, because in Argentina we have 5 years of HS and I am in year 3. Good luck anyway!
Don’t say colleges don’t care about AP when they do. They want to see you take classes that you’re interested in, yet are still rigorous and challenge you.
Colleges don’t care about AP’s ??? whoever told you that?? Of course they do.
I know that, but they wont say you didn’t take challenging classes because you took APES
Depends on what the alternative course choices are.
40381 posts! Wow
My other options are ap physics and normal physics I have already taken regular chem and ap bio, and the ap chem teacher at our school is notoriously bad and everyone fails the ap test so I would rather not take it. And after doing poorly in AP Bio (B+ last semester) I realized science isn’t my strong point and decided to go for apes because a) it seems very fun and interesting and b) because i thought it will be a gpa boost and be more rigorous than regular physics
Some colleges do prefer to see all three of biology, chemistry, and physics (though not necessarily at the AP level for all of them).
No, they don’t look bad.
I will be taking regular physics next year (honors if they offer that they normally don’t) but I’m taking apes this year because UC’s look at only your sophomore and junior year gap
It really depends. Most people here say AP Psych is one of the easiest classes, but at my school it’s the hardest, aside from AP USH. And yeah colleges do care about AP classes, the classes just won’t always affect whether or not you get accepted, but you earn credit from these classes with a high enough score, so why not take them.
