Do AP scores even matter, aside from college credit?

Do college admissions take them into consideration?
How important are they?
Do they care about self-studied AP's?

I've been told time and time again that AP scores are meaningless.
If I take the number of AP tests I'm planning on taking and do well on them, I'll be the first National AP Scholar at our school in 11 years.
Would that be considered a big deal, in context?

They consider how many APs you’ve taken in terms of your strength of schedule and GPA, but they don’t really consider the scores on the AP tests because they are self-reported.

They still care though. Treat them like sat 2’s - important, but won’t make/break an application

They are not considered in the application process.
