Do AP tests give you...

a grade for the class in college? some of my friends were saying 5 on an AP test gives you a credit and an A in college, a 4 gives you a B, and so on....is that true?

Depends on the college. Some colleges award credit for your AP classes weather i be a 4 or 5 depending on the school.

I have never heard of colleges actually assigning a grade for the class based on your AP score. From what I have read, universities/colleges just give you credit for whatever score they deem necessary for credit.

Sometimes an AP grade will only exempt you from a class, not granting you credit at all. Colleges don't advertise how they give credit, so I can't really tell you much there.

Then there are schools like Amherst that don't give any exemptions or credit for AP exams at all.

Oh woops, I read it wrong. I read it as do colleges give you credit.

^
yeah, but it still depends on the school.
Some Schools will only accept a test score for credit of 5, for both AP and IB...
It ranges, some might not accept the test...while others maybe give credit for 5 and 4, some 5,4,and 3...
It does tend to correlate how good the school is...(IE:Ivy School only accept 5s, most accept 5 and 4)
but schools like UT Austin will accept scores as low as 2...

Yeah, that's why I said it depends on the school.

Actually, lots of colleges have conversion charts for whatever score on whatever AP test and how much credit you get.

^What I meant was that colleges don't advertise how the AP credit goes on your transcript. Yes, they do have pages that give tables telling how much credit they give for which tests. But most of them just say "credit granted" without giving details.
