Apologies if this may be a stupid question...
But does anyone know if applicants ever get accepted to Cornell, or any Ivy League schools, with a superscore of around 2000, or even lower? I understand that SAT scores aren't everything, and that they're just one part of the app, but for many of these schools, even if the applicant has stellar GPA and ECs, the scores may indeed make or break the application.

One reason as to why I am asking this is because my SAT happens to be around that area. I'm merely wondering if, given the case that I happen to have amazing grades, classes, ECs, essays, and what have you, I still have a chance with less competitive SATs. But I'm just wondering, in general, do applicants with SAT scores around that range ever get accepted to these schools? My guess is that they do, but rarely. Any input?

Your numbers are seriously off, from reality.

In reality, it should be more like…

Assuming your subject test scores are over 750…
1900+ 5% admitted
2000+ 10% admitted
2100+ 20% admitted
2200+ 30% admitted
2300+ 35% admitted

Once your SATs scores goes above 2200 range, additional points on your SATs won’t factor into the admissions decisions as heavily. However, having sub-par SAT scores, compared to other strong applicants, would definitely hurt your chances.

Those numbers above are rough estimates, assuming you have good gpa, ecs, recs, and essays.

Personally, I think mrpropaganda and lazykid are at two extremes for their values. Regarding your question, yes, people with around 2000 do get accepted, but since you cant give any specific good hooks or ecs to balance that out its hard to say whether you will be accepted. 2000 is still pretty good anyways, but you really need to stand out for a top 10

Don’t know for Cornell, but i know last year a student from my school get accepted to Harvard with a 1800+ish SAT, i don’t know if he is recruited, but i don’t think so.

Sure, but your claim that kids with 2300ish SATs have 98% chance of admission is a joke. Hope you don’t misinform others with that highly misinformed opinion of yours. Btw, it is a fact that your opinion is flat out wrong. Just ask any admissions officers at any top school then come back to post here.

Btw, I am not a hs kid. I am a current student at Cornell…
Having higher SAT scores, to get into any top school (besides Cornell), only helps you just a bit once your score is around 2200.

“Don’t know for Cornell, but i know last year a student from my school get accepted to Harvard with a 1800+ish SAT, i don’t know if he is recruited, but i don’t think so.”

Those things happen, but at small percentage. Maybe that person was URM (ethnicity other than White or Asian) or recruited athlete, most likely.

Not asking for anyone to chance me, as I’ll take my chances (haha) and apply anyway, but any comments would certainly be welcome. And unfortunately, as an update to the chance thread, I now have my latest SATII scores and they aren’t that great. The only improvement is a 710 in Math I. Yikes.
