Just quick question - do UC's count your AP scores taken in high school towards the max transferable cap? I'm a bit worried now because I realized that I've now taken 113 quarter units at Davis and I heard there was a max cutoff of around 120 quarter units.

I took like 11 AP classes back in high school - turns out I need one of them to complete a certain requirement, but obviously I can't just send one score.

Oh boy...113 units completed at Davis + 11 AP tests = 157 units

xleper could you elaborate? without ap scores i only have about 45 or so semester units and ive been accepted to some schools without having sent in my ap scores

well, did you give your CCC your AP scores?

to contribute to your IGETC?

if such is the case, then your UC is going on the belief that you're IGETC certified. my sister used AP Art History to complete her IGETC but she had to send her AP scores separately to the UC. Like me, I took AP US History and it is 3 units to my IGETC, but according to the UC's, from what they've seen, I only have 57 units. Just make sure you send them the AP scores early. Collegeboard f'd up and didn't send UCSD (my sis's school) her AP score. So they almost rescinded her acceptance three weeks before she was about to attend.

Blurry -- I THINK you can send just one score. I'm pretty sure you have to tell them which AP test scores you want to send. Doesn't hurt to give them a call and see.

i had the same question a while back, but you can send in as many AP/IB scores as you want to and they won't count against you - only for you. Check out page 40 of this pdf flyer:

this is what a ucsd rep told me: if you need the units to reach the 60 sem/90 quarter minimum, they will be added to your unit total. if by adding the units, you will go over the unit cap (i.e. do you harm), they won't add them. AP units can only help you, won't hurt you. can anyone verify?

animalchinep -- yup. Once you've submitted your SIR. As you do have to pay to have your scores sent and the UC's will only take them after you've accepted their offer.

smazn: I am almost 100 percent positive that AP's only count for you and not against you, I don't remember where I read it (I actually don't think it was from that flyer link I posted), but it was somewhere on the Berkeley website - so I think you're right.

I also don't think that you can choose which AP scores the school receives and doesn't receive. When you order a AP score report from college board they send the school all of the scores, but I don't think it even matters because the scores aren't used against you in any case.

This is correct. It does not matter whether or not you've reported the scores. AP "credit" will not harm you. I got this from an admissions rep.
