Do APs Matter?

I am currently taking chem and precal. I want to self-study Ap Chem and BC Cal. Do you think colleges look down on self studying a course, if you could take the course a year later? Also is it true that Ap scores don't really affect you being accepted?

I dont know the answer to your first question, but to answer your second question... Good AP scores can give you a huge boost in college admission, however depending on the college itself, sometimes bad AP scores (not passing) wouldnt hurt much, because at least taking the test showed that you were up for the challenge.

if you take an AP class got an A and scored like a 2 it shows that your class was probably easy and u didnt do much. However if u got a C in an AP class and scored a 5... its much better. The question about self-study... i would like to know the answer to taht too but Im defanatly sure that it wont look bad for colleges

I don't completely disagree with what you said, however this is what my teacher told our class. When a student got an A in the course but did not pass the exam, it doesn't neccesarily look worse than someone who got a 5 on the exam but a C in the course. Some college would actually choose the student who got the A in the course because that student is hardworking but not naturally smart, but the student who got a 5 but a C shows that the student probably crammed or lucked out.

Well, overall, the grade you got on the course is a lot more important than what you got on the exam.

i was just trying to make a point... :(

It's very hard to cram for a five in ANY AP test. It's even harder to "luck out." I think the C student with a five is better than the A student with a two.

I think APs do matter, even more so if you make fives on the tests because it is very good proof that you are capable of handling more difficult work.

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you. =</p>

Does anybody know which ap is harder to self-study
physics
chem
or calculs bc

^I think all of them are pretty hard to self-study, but somehow I think calculus BC is the easiest one since it doesn't have any labs, but I might be wrong.

Also, I think C with 5 is about as good/bad as A with 2 because A w/ 2 could mean you're a hard worker but not naturally smart, but an adcom can also take that as your class was way easy and not challenging enough. Also, C with 5 might tell your class was really hard and prepared you a lot of the exam, but it also take that as you were slacking off the class whole year even though you were naturally smart.

Thank You NorthWestLover

Chem < Physics B < Calculus BC < Physics C

All in my opinion, of course. It depends on what subjects you perform better in.
