<p>generally no unless they are hooked or an outstanding applicant besides their grades. Also if their courseload was extremely difficult and they still got, say a 3.6, then they might be able to get into a good school.</p>
<p>MIT has admissions</a> statistics on the admissions website which show that 205 students with an ACT score between 21 and 25 applied last year.</p>
<p>They don't give the breakdown of GPAs, but they do report that 573 students ranked in the top 11-20% of their high school classes applied, and 368 students below the top 20% applied.</p>

30-34. 100% were in the top 25% of their HS class. 97% were in the top 10% of their HS class.</p>

Right, but the question wasn't whether they were admitted. The OP asked whether students with a ~3.3 GPA or 24 ACT apply to top schools, and the answer is that they do. They are largely not admitted, but they do apply.</p>

<p>Why don't you get the answer by applying and see for yourself whether or not an average student like you get into top schools.</p>
<p>Its not like we've experienced this ourselves or we have an entire factbook of everysingle person who applied to college and can be like Aha, fact: 9.182% of average students within your specified range applied, 2.148% got in.</p>
<p>We wish to be enlightened ourselves. So why don't just try, take a deep breath, and apply and see for yourself whether or not a student of average caliber can get into a top notch school. My answer is probably yes What more do you want, a definitely yes answer. No one is going to give it to you, it ranges from school to school, individual to individual.</p>

<p>I don't think many people with those stats gain acceptance to the upper echelon schools. You should look for schools within your range -- local and state schools that accept 50-75% of their applicants.</p>

<p>Even for University of Oklahoma, with its 90% acceptance rate, 24 ACT is at their bottom 25th. That's like 1550/2400 SAT score... </p>
<p>ask this question again when you have pulled at least 10 points higher in ACT... i'd worry about getting into your state-school first.</p>
