Do average students apply usually apply to top schools?

Im just curious if anyone knows about this. So if anyone knows anything plz feel free to post.

By average I mean like 3.33 GPA 24 ACT

generally no unless they are hooked or an outstanding applicant besides their grades. Also if their courseload was extremely difficult and they still got, say a 3.6, then they might be able to get into a good school.

MIT has admissions statistics on the admissions website which show that 205 students with an ACT score between 21 and 25 applied last year.

They don't give the breakdown of GPAs, but they do report that 573 students ranked in the top 11-20% of their high school classes applied, and 368 students below the top 20% applied.

MIT Office of the Provost, Institutional Research

The average ACT of those enrolled at MIT had a composite score range of
30-34. 100% were in the top 25% of their HS class. 97% were in the top 10% of their HS class.

About 11,400 applied, about 1,500 were admitted. This school is not for the average student.

21-24: 4/205=2%

2% acceptance rate, lol, lets hope those students are crazy hooked.

Right, but the question wasn't whether they were admitted. The OP asked whether students with a ~3.3 GPA or 24 ACT apply to top schools, and the answer is that they do. They are largely not admitted, but they do apply.

Wow, another thread from this guy...

just dont apply to top schools. get a hint dude. its been like 15 threads.

you know what i find funnier than me posting threads?

the same people (ny smile, tuowls, etc.) constantly tell me to stop.

I get it your point (all my threads are different questions). So just stop it it is really annoying. You should know by now if im gonna listen to you or anyone else for that matter.

Why don't you get the answer by applying and see for yourself whether or not an average student like you get into top schools.

Its not like we've experienced this ourselves or we have an entire factbook of everysingle person who applied to college and can be like Aha, fact: 9.182% of average students within your specified range applied, 2.148% got in.

We wish to be enlightened ourselves. So why don't just try, take a deep breath, and apply and see for yourself whether or not a student of average caliber can get into a top notch school. My answer is probably yes What more do you want, a definitely yes answer. No one is going to give it to you, it ranges from school to school, individual to individual.

its not what they are saying its how they are saying it

I don't think many people with those stats gain acceptance to the upper echelon schools. You should look for schools within your range -- local and state schools that accept 50-75% of their applicants.

since when was 24 ACT "average"?

Even for University of Oklahoma, with its 90% acceptance rate, 24 ACT is at their bottom 25th. That's like 1550/2400 SAT score...

ask this question again when you have pulled at least 10 points higher in ACT... i'd worry about getting into your state-school first.

also the 24 on my ACT actually guarantees my acceptance to U of O

"guaranteed admission policy : at least a 3.00 unweighted and a 24 ACT"</p>

from their website

national ACT average is between 20-21

and national SAT average is 1518/2400.

University of Oklahoma - College Search

*Acceptance rate: 89% *
ACT middle 50%: 23 - 28
GPA above 3.5: 65%

you:
ACT: 24
GPA: 3.3

ACT has a different average
look on o of u s website

anyone wanna back me up

so what schools are you planning to apply with 24 ACT & 3.3 GPA anyway? UCLA? NYU? UIUC????

i don't think you will get admitted even as a recruited athelete in any of these places.

I would say limit your to 1 mega reach.
Like you could be that 3%

hell im an all state varsity wrestler
