Do bad AP scores hurt your chances at the most selective colleges?

Our school puts all standardized test scores on the back of our transcript (SAT, ACT, APs, etc). I epically bombed an AP exam this year, and I was wondering if getting a 1,2 or 3 will hurt your chances in college admission for highly-selective colleges, or do colleges not really care/look at the AP scores for admission purposes.
I have heard different things from different people, but have never gotten a definite answer. I want to see what people on this forum (many who seem to be experts in the field of college admissions) think.

3 - doubtful
2 - possibly
1 - probably
it won’t hurt too much though

Yes they do.

it’s kinda stupid how the schools can put AP scores on transcripts and they can go against your chances of getting in… but only if you submit the scores from collegeboard do you actually benefit from them (credit/higher placement) Not to mention a lot of schools make you take their own placement tests which nullifies the AP scores.

I doubt AP scores would affect your college admission chances. AP Scores are only meant for passing you out of some classes or placement exams. However, I believe that an AP score of 4/5 would probably make you noticeable, but only slightly.

Besides, there have been some people mentioned on this forum who got into the Ivy League with some scores of 1 and 2.
