Do/can you submit supplements separately?

If my son submits the Common App and one supplement next week, can he then go back and submit other supplements as he finishes them? Is that how it works? Will all the Common App. schools receive the Common App. only when the supplement for a particular school is submitted, too?

Thank-you.

I would suggest submitting the supplements first, then the common app… But, if you don’t want to do it that way… Go to “help” in the upper right hand corner of the screen and browse through the topics. It talks about creating alternate versions of the application after it has been submitted.

The application, supplement, and payment submissions are three distinct processes. Some colleges enforce a specific sequence (e.g. you must submit your supplement before you can submit your app, you must submit your payment before you submit your app, etc.). The My Colleges page outlines these requirements (if any) for each college. For schools that do to enforce a sequence, students can submit in any order they choose.

Ok, this is very helpful. So, to clarify, if my son is doing an EA school, he can submit that school’s supplement, the Common App. and the payment, and he’ll be done with that school. Later, he can finish supplements of his other schools and submit those as he finishes.

If his EA school has a separate Arts Supplement-apart from the Common App. Arts Supplement-is it ok if he waits to submit the Common App. supplement or will that hold up his application to the EA school?

Thanks again.

hoopser77, just curious why you suggest submitting supplements first? (for those schools who don’t request an order I guess)

you can submit supplements seperately for each school, click the supplement tab then choose the school and fill it out :)

I know that, but my question was why send the supplements first?

What about the arts supplement-can that be submitted later if my son is planning to submit his arts supplement hard copy to his EA school? Or will that hold up his application to the EA school?

Thank-you.

It won’t hold i up as long as everything gets in on time it will be good.

All the best answers for this are here, OP: https://www.commonapp.org/commonapp/instructions.aspx</a> :)

Thank-you!

Yes each school is different - for UVA it says this:

Before submitting the CommonApp to this institution you must:
Submit your Payments to this institution
Submit your Supplements to this institution

SO for UVA - you must pay and submit the supplement and THEN Submit the CA

Just another thing to keep track of…
