Will my community college grades matter if I transfer to a UC then decide to apply to grad school? If so how is that gpa calculated, are the cc courses and UC courses given the same weighting?
Yes, they will matter & have just as much weight. FWIW, Many grad schools will calculate your overall GPA and your major GPA separately.
Major gpa would just be from the UC right not any lower division equivalents taken at a cc
@jwallsucks they take both GPAs into account but more weight is put on junior/senior year.
Any pre-req courses related to the major will be assessed from the CCC. The best way around it is stellar grades at the UC and related ECs.
What kind of “grad school”?
Medical and law schools will recalculate college GPAs their own way using all college courses and grades. You can look up the methods on the AAMC and LSAC web sites.
PhD programs will consider all college courses and grades, but your upper division in-major courses and grades will likely be the most important in their holistic review.
