Ok i go to a 4 year university but i am currently only taking online classes thru olympic community college in WA. I am applying to BU, NYU, Umich and others and i have called all of them and asked them if online courses transfer in and none of them have given me a clear answer ( although NYU said not likely). I am just wondering if any of you are currently in any online classes and have any experience with them transferring in? I have also tried to look at the schools transfer equivalency guide ( for those that have them) and none said anything about online classes

I don’t know about the schools you mentioned, but I go to a community college in California where I take online classes, and all the universities here accept online classes. Of course they have to be UC transferable, but that goes for any course, online or not. I can’t imagine that any university would reject classes because they are online, but you should ask a counselor at your community college just in case.

At my school there is no indication on the transcript whether a class was taken online or not. I am not sure if this happens at your school or not.

Note: I have taken many online classes and they have transferred just like any other class would. But once again it all depends on the school.

Were you clear that it was your instate community college? Since the college is regionally accredited, the units should be transferable as long as the course is acceptable. If it is some kind of remedial course or some odd course with no equivalent in the new institution they may not take it. They will evaluate your transcripts when you apply.

If you just asked about an online course, they may have thought it possibly came from a non regionally accredited school, which aren’t usually taken.

UPDATE: my CC does not differentiate between regular and online classes on a transcript therefore the online classes that i am taking will not show up as “online courses” on my transcript.
