Do certain sports look better than others?

I have been playing soccer nearly my entire life and have played it in high school at both the JV and Varsity level. I have seen several chance threads for top universities where a student says they have done track or cross country for 3-4 years My question is: do team sports like soccer, baseball, football.... look better at the Varsity level as opposed to other linear sports like long distance running that don't require as much skill? I have nothing against sports like CC or track, as I know they are very physically demanding as well as time consuming. I am just curious if admissions looks at them any differently.

I’m no expert, but I would think that college admissions officers basically value the amount of time that a sport requires. Considering that pretty much all varsity sports (baseball, track,…) require about the same amount of practice time after school, I’m guessing they are all pretty much valued the same.

That’s what I was thinking as well. It’s the same with ECs, it doesn’t matter the type of activity, but rather the time spent doing it.

As a former four year track athlete whose gone through the admissions process, I can assure you a sport like track is not viewed as “less than” compared to others. No sport is for that matter. And I would have had a real problem when applying to college if that wasn’t the case, as that was basically my only EC because it was so time consuming.

It’s not so much about what sport you do, but what you put in and get out of that sport.
