I see that it has a minimum gpa of 3.0, but most of it’s students go to super-elite schools. Can extracurriculars make up for a lower gpa?
The Coca Cola Scholarship is very competitive and a 3.0 average is a very low bar.
The term “scholars” gives a good indication of the value placed on grades by the committee.
Another thought is why is the bar set so low at 3.0 on a 4.0 scale ? Is it to encourage applications from a very diverse group of students ? If so, an explanation of less than stellar grades should be included in the application. (Maybe from a low socio-economic background which required the applicant to work in order to help the family meet necessary expenses for essentials such as food, rent, & utilities. Or maybe the applicant had to look after a disabled parent or other relative or siblings in order to allow a single parent to work both day & night. Or other hardship such as an unknown & untreated medical condition.)
No, you need elite academics+elite ECs.
The 3.0 is so that potentially strong applicants with a sub 3.75 GPA aren’t cut from the get go, since some kids’grades can be due to terrible situations (homelessness, death of a parent, hospitalization/serious disease…)
In your previous posts, you indicated that you have a financially well-off family. You were seeking to get out of Florida and were prestige-hunting for a school in the top 30s. Costs didn’t matter. What changed?
Why would you need to apply to the Coca-Cola scholarship program, for $20,000, if your family is financially well-off?
They only select 150 students and GPA is a mitigating factor.
I don’t think that merit scholarship are the exclusive domain of the financially needy.
More to the point, in previous posts, OP said “My overall unweighted GPA is 3.61” which begs the question of what is the point of this thread?
