Do college credits transfer twice?

I want to transfer out of St. John's University and go to a SUNY like Stony or Albany, but I want to spend a semester at a CUNY before transferring to SUNY. Would my credits from St. John's reach the SUNYs if I spend the semester at CUNY?

The credits always transfer from the school they originated at, they don’t “convert”, so even if CUNY didn’t accept something from St. John’s, the SUNY might accept them. And just because the CUNY accepts them, it doesn’t mean the SUNY will.

If you don’t need financial aid for that semester at CUNY, ask about enrolling there in non-degree status. For that, you may not even need to provide the transcripts from St. John’s.
