Do College in the US act nice??

Hello,

I applied in University of Iowa in the Biochemistry program in Late December. Their site said that the bioscinces program: which handles all the PhD programs, will contact students in January and February for interviews. In February I e-mailed them a few times to know where my application was going because I just wanted to hear yes/no and always got "you will hear from us very soon." as a reply. When I got no answer but this for some tiem I just gave up and started applying in UK universities. Applying in US universities is difficult and an emotional turmoil so I chose just University of Iowa in US and applied in their PhD program and am now applying for MSc in UK. Now I have received a mail from the actual department and not from the Biosciences program. The department has invited me for an interview on Mar, 9th via skype. I am completely paranoid thinking that they are just being nice and have no intention of admitting me at all and just want to get it over with the-foreign-girl-who-emails-too-much..Can this be possible?

I honestly don't have a very good university career because of some reasons though I have always been a bright student otherwise. I mentioned the reasons in my personal statement. other than this my dissertation was a success with A grade. I also contacted one of the Iowa professors beforehand and got a positive response from him [which i mentioned in my personal statement] . My GPA in just 3.14 with disastrous GRE scores, some 151 one verbal, 151 quan and 3.5 on Awa, according to the new scale, have 109 on Toefl. But I have several honorary services during extra-curricular and also an international representation of my country as a biotechnologist conducted by the foreign ministry. I have been a bad student in university, but i can easily mend it I know.

Just now i read here on CC that a person was interviewed for biology in Iowa in January. Also the facebook page of the biosciences program also says that they have wrapped up the interviews and are now sending students the offers. So are they just being nice to me and have already wrapped up their program???? Do universities do that?? I am so paranoid and can't prepare well for the interview thinking about this.. :[ :[ I know i'll blabber and lose my temper [one of my issues] at some point in the interview if this keeps hanging over me. Please some one get me out of this misery.
