Hey all,

I was recently told by my art teacher to include art portfolios which were pieces I drew in my extracurricular art classes outside of school.
In the beginning, I wanted to major in art, however, my mother said I wouldn't be able to make a living doing art so I should find another major and have art as a hobby.

So, I've decided to go in undecided; but today my art teacher told me to submit my pieces to colleges such as UPenn, etc. because in the past they liked students who did so. Sending it portfolios showed that the student was an artist and artists are usually creative, which then leads to the point that creative people are useful and succeed/are productive in society.

Could anyone confirm, refute, or augment this?
