Do colleges calculate your grades in their way?

Hi everybody. I'm wondering one thing. Maybe this is a stupid question. In my school, all grades are numerical. We don't have A's or B's. Will colleges calculate your numerical grades in their way and translate my numerical grades into A's or B's? Or is there a standard rule to calculate GPA?

There is no standard rule. Many colleges recalculate GPA using their own system. For example they might convert grades to their system such as dropping plusses and minuses, converting number grades to letter grades, and applying their own weighting system for AP and honors courses. They may, and most do, consider only grades in college prep courses–language, English, social studies, lab science, and math (all those nice you have in health and vocational studies mean nothing). Some don’t do any conversions at all and just go by their familiarity with the various high schools. Some use class rank as the key rather than grades and estimate rank if not provided. In other words, there are many different systems employed and which one depends on college.
