Do colleges care about the writing score?

i did alright on the regular test (32) but then i got a 8 on the essay. My composite english/writing is 26 (down from 28 english). Does the composite english writing matter at all to colleges?

no

;;;;;;

^Some more well-known colleges will use it as a validity check. Should be good with an 8+ essay though. Lower essay scores might look bad with higher composites.

right, he has a point.

worry about the WRITING SCORE perhaps, but don’t worry about the COMBINED.

so, if i had a higher essay score in june, but a higher composite score in september, should i send both?

Um…depends what the writing test means to the college

I consider myself to be a pretty good writer, but I consistently get 8’s on the writing section. Those prompts are so dull that I can’t write anything interesting. I’m applying to some prestigious schools like Northwestern, Wash U, Duke, etc. Will the 8 be held against me?
