Do colleges care about what type of HS P.E class you take? The 2 kinds are Athletic P.E. and Regular

Athletic P.E. is an intense P.E. course. Regular is just…well regular and typical of what you do in P.E.

My friend said Athletic P.E. would look better on a transcript. However, Athletic P.E. and Regular P.E. are both weighted the same in a GPA scale.

If Athletic P.E. looks better, then I’ll definitely take it. I’m fit and athletic, so I wouldn’t die or get depressed in that class. But if intensity of P.E. doesn’t matter, then I’d rather take regular P.E.

Hmm, we also have a variation of PEs at my school. However, they are viewed as “easy classes.” This is my opinion, but it’s mostly just my assumption. If your school allows you take academic courses as electives, I think those will look better than PE since athletics are seen as an easy “A.” Unless you plan on getting a sport scholar/want to pursue sport in some kind of way, then maybe it is good to do PE idk. Based on your friend, might as well be on the safer side and do Athletic PE if you’d like to do it. If you are still hesitant, ask your counselor for his/her opinion since they have more knowledge.

@MellowMusic Sadly, P.E. is required at my school, so I have no choice other than to take it. My question is do colleges prefer Athletic P.E. (hard) or regular P.E. (easy)? They shouldn’t care but if they do, I’ll make sure I take Athletic P.E., which is a P.E. for athletes and it’s EXTREMELY challenging. Regular P.E. is for everyone, all we do is play basketball or whatever the P.E. teacher wants us to do

If I were you, I would take regular! I don’t think colleges will care one way or the other.

Colleges don’t look at PE. The classes aren’t academic but typically a graduation requirement to help you stay for and healthy. Colleges don’t count them at all. When the recap form is done, PE is done. Therefore they don’t 'prefer ’ anything, it’s like you never took it as far as they’re concerned.
Take whatever you like or can do well in.

No.

Furthermore, I do not think that an AO would even know what the difference was, ands in the 12-15 minutes he takes to read your application, he is certainly not going ton research the differences. Take whichever one you want.

Colleges could not care less about what PE elective you take - I’m an AP student who took the most easy, basic level of PE (regular HOPE online) and still got into every college I applied to(all state schools). My boyfriend, who got into U of Michigan also just took the basic HOPE (online). Really doesn’t matter. Focus your energy in classes that really matter. Good luck!
